Gabrielle's Story
Gabi's relationship with Guide Dogs NSW/ACT dates back some 18 years.
By the age of five, Gabi was blind due to Leber's congenital amaurosis, a condition that affects the retina.
When Gabi started Kindergarten, Guide Dogs NSW/ACT taught her to get around safely using a cane. Since then, we have provided fresh orientation and mobility training at the beginning of every new chapter of Gabi's life, such as when she started high school and then university.
Now 23, Gabi uses a long cane, Miniguide and mobile phone software to find her way around the city safely. She hopes to be calling on us again soon when she begins her first full-time job!
