The Assistive Technology team at Guide Dogs helps people who are blind or have low vision identify, learn and confidently use the technologies that make everyday life more accessible and independent. Technology can unlock access to information, communication, daily routines and community participation — and this team ensures it does so in ways that are practical and empowering.

Assistive Technology Specialists work one-on-one with clients and families to understand individual goals and the tasks that matter most. From accessibility features on smartphones and computers, to screen readers, magnification software, Braille displays or navigation apps, they tailor recommendations to suit each person’s preferences, devices and lifestyle. Training is personalised so clients become confident using technology at home, work, school or out in the community.

The team’s approach is collaborative — they listen, guide and support at every step, making sure tools are not just introduced but truly usable and helpful. They also partner with other specialists across Guide Dogs’ services to create a holistic support plan.

The Assistive Technology team supports the use of technology that works for you, greater independence in daily life, and the confidence to engage more fully with the world.
