Orientation & Mobility team

The Orientation & Mobility Specialist team at Guide Dogs Australia works alongside people who are blind or have low vision to build the skills, confidence and independence needed to move safely through everyday life. 

Each specialist is university qualified and trained in evidence-based mobility instruction. They understand that no two people experience vision loss in the same way. That is why support is always tailored to the individual, their goals and their environment; whether that means navigating busy intersections, using public transport, travelling to school or work, or moving safely around the home and local community. 

The team provides practical training in the use of mobility aids such as long canes, supports safe route planning, and teaches strategies to problem-solve unfamiliar environments. Just as importantly, they offer reassurance and steady guidance during what can often be a significant life transition. 

For clients and families, the value is clear: greater independence, improved safety and renewed confidence. Orientation & Mobility Specialists empower people to participate fully in their community, maintain choice and control, and continue doing the things that matter most to them.
